SMUD is seeking a WebMethods Integration Developer to support its IT organizational portfolio for 2026. In this leased capacity, you will play a critical role in developing web service APIs and integrations that enable the implementation of various capital projects across the utility. This position serves as the technical bridge connecting enterprise systems—including GIS, ERP, asset management, project controls, and document management—to ensure seamless data exchange and interoperability.
You will work closely with SMUD IT resources, business stakeholders, and project teams to design solutions that are secure, scalable, and resilient. The role involves not only building robust APIs but also ensuring they adhere to strict cybersecurity policies, industry standards (such as NIST and CIS Controls), and organizational documentation standards. Your work will directly impact the organization's ability to manage data flow and integrate legacy systems with modern cloud solutions.
This is a hybrid role based in Sacramento, California. The position requires an initial 3-day onsite orientation and onboarding session at SMUD's Sacramento offices. Following the orientation, the schedule is set for onsite work every Wednesday, with remote work permitted on all other days. The work schedule falls between 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM Pacific Time, subject to agreement with the immediate supervisor. Contractors must have reliable internet and work exclusively within the United States.
Strong communication skills are essential, as you will be required to translate highly technical information into clear verbal and written updates for the project team. All deliverables must be fully documented, and technical knowledge transfer will be provided as required to ensure long-term maintainability.

Advanced or professional certifications related to integration platforms or APIs (e.g., Software AG Certified webMethods Developer, MuleSoft, AWS Certified Developer, Microsoft Azure Integration, PMP, or equivalent). Prior experience supporting IT or digital initiatives in the public sector, utilities, or energy industry. Proficiency with related Software AG technologies: Integration Server, Universal Messaging, API Gateway, wM Test Suite, EDI/TN (Trading Networks), and Java Service Development. Demonstrated knowledge of secure software development, identity and access management, and implementation of cybersecurity best practices.
