Role Overview
Truck driving companies are currently seeking qualified Over-the-Road (OTR) Truck Drivers to transport freight safely and efficiently across long distances. This role involves operating on multi-state routes, requiring extended time on the road, strict adherence to safety regulations, and the ability to meet scheduled delivery deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
- Vehicle Operation: Operate a Class A commercial tractor-trailer in full compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company policies while transporting freight over long-distance, multi-state routes.
- Safety Inspections: Perform pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety and regulatory compliance.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate electronic logs, mileage records, and delivery documentation.
- Cargo Security: Properly secure cargo to prevent damage or loss during transit.
- Regulatory Compliance: Follow all Hours of Service requirements and safety standards.
- Communication: Communicate regularly with dispatch regarding route status, delays, and delivery updates.
- Incident Reporting: Promptly report any accidents, traffic incidents, or mechanical issues.
- Delivery Execution: Ensure all pickups and deliveries are completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
Compensation and Earnings
Average annual earnings range from $60,000 to $90,000+, depending on experience, mileage, and route type. Compensation structures typically include:
- Cents per mile (CPM)
- Percentage of load
- Guaranteed weekly pay
