As a Transporter at Medstar Health, you play a vital role in the efficient and safe movement of patients, specimens, records, and medications throughout the facility. This position ensures that critical diagnostic results and medical supplies reach nursing units and departments promptly, supporting the continuity of patient care and operational workflow.
Your day involves adhering to a strict schedule for the pickup and delivery of patient diagnostic results, among other things, patient diagnostic results, medications, messages, packages, and medical records. You will respond promptly to stat deliveries and provide relief coverage when necessary to ensure uninterrupted service.
A significant portion of your responsibilities involves transporting patients to and from clinical, clinical, ancillary, and support department areas. During transit, you are responsible for ensuring patient safety and comfort, assisting with transfers between beds, chairs, wheelchairs, or stretchers, and maintaining appropriate isolation techniques for isolation patients. You will also observe the general condition of patients, including the proper condition of IVs, urine retention bags, oxygen, and chest tubes, notifying nursing personnel of any difficulties.
Additionally, you will maintain a supply of wheelchairs and stretchers at designated areas, and stretchers at designated areas, reporting any malfunctioning equipment or safety hazards. You will keep assigned rooms, equipment, and areas clean and orderly, including cleaning and returning materials to their proper locations after completing tasks. This includes removing expired stock, discarding debris, and initialing and dating log sheets.
You will contribute to the achievement of established department goals and objectives by adhering to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards. You are expected to comply with governmental and accreditation regulations. Furthermore, you will participate in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams to drive continuous improvement in patient care and service delivery.
