As a Teacher for In-School Suspension (ISS), you play a critical role in supporting students who require a structured, alternative learning environment. Your mission is to help students master subject matter and develop the skills necessary to become mature, responsible individuals. This position exists to ensure that students removed from the general classroom continue their academic progress in a setting that is conducive to learning and appropriate to their maturity levels.
In this role, you will plan and deliver a program of study tailored to the individual needs, interests, and abilities of your students. You will create a positive classroom environment, establish clear objectives for all lessons, and employ a variety of instructional techniques to guide the learning process. Beyond academics, you will foster a culture of self-discipline by encouraging students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
You will serve as a key liaison between the school administration and the students, assisting in the implementation of district policies regarding student life and conduct. Your responsibilities include maintaining accurate records, assessing student accomplishments, and diagnosing learning abilities with the support of district specialists. You will also supervise teacher aides and volunteers, ensuring they contribute effectively to the educational goals of the program.
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, or such alternatives as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. The position reports directly to the Principal and is classified as a non-exempt role, employed for 190 days per school year.
