This position serves as a Section Chief for General, Specialized, and Advanced English, acting as the primary academic advisor to the Chief of the Academic Instruction Branch on Department of Defense English Language Program (DELP) matters. The role focuses on resident training programs that serve a diverse military student body, including cadets, privates, NCOs, officers, general officers, and senior civilian executive service members. These students represent a wide array of age groups, services, educational backgrounds, cultures, and religions.
A core purpose of this position is to foster goodwill among these diverse international military and civilian student groups, directly supporting the Department of Defense mission of building global partnerships. The incumbent plans and directs section operations, ensuring strict compliance with legal and regulatory requirements across the DoD, Department of State, Defense Language National Security Education Organization, Defense Security Cooperation Agency, and the U.S. Air Force.
The role operates within the Defense Language Institute English Language Center (DLIELC), representing the organization to various DoD, DoS, U.S. Air Force, installation, and functional area organizations. The Section Chief exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities and manages section training programs, establishing policies, goals, and priorities to accomplish the mission.
Candidates must be U.S. citizens and, if male, registered for Selective Service. This position is subject to the DoD Priority Placement Program and requires a SECRET security clearance as a condition of continued employment. The role is a drug testing designated position subject to random testing.
Successful candidates must be willing to sign a mobility agreement and be able to travel by military and commercial aircraft both within the U.S. (CONUS) and overseas (OCONUS). A physical examination is required to maintain deployment readiness. The position is centrally managed, and Permanent Change of Station (PCS) is authorized, with relocation paid in accordance with Joint Travel Regulations (JTR) and Air Force Regulations.

Master's degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL), Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL), English as a Second Language (ESL), English as a Foreign Language (EFL), Applied Linguistics, or Linguistics; OR Undergraduate degree in ESL/EFL, English, or foreign languages with one year of professional level experience teaching ESL/EFL to adults; OR any undergraduate degree with 24 semester hours of undergraduate courses equivalent to a major in TESOL, TESL, TEFL, ESL, EFL, or linguistics plus one year of professional level experience teaching ESL/EFL to adults; Native speaker or equivalent status; Free of speech impediment.
