The Sports Sales Manager serves as the primary liaison between the City of South Padre Island and the sports tourism industry. This role is dedicated to promoting the island as a premier destination for tournaments, events, and training camps. By fostering strong connections with sports organizations, teams, event planners, and local businesses, the manager works to increase hotel occupancy and drive economic growth through sports-related travel.
In this position, you will act as the face of the City's sports tourism efforts, representing South Padre Island at regional and state organizations. The role involves developing creative sales strategies to attract new sports markets and ensuring that visiting groups receive a welcoming introduction to local establishments. You will work independently to manage deadlines, assess market situations, and execute special projects that enhance the island's reputation as a top-tier sports destination.
Your work will blend strategic planning with active field engagement. You will conduct direct sales efforts, prepare block sheets and contracts, and manage bids for potential and established clients. A significant portion of your time will be spent traveling to sports tradeshows, networking events, and conferences to present the City as an ideal venue. You will also prepare and deliver oral presentations to sports conventions and organizations.
Beyond sales, you will ensure exceptional service by responding to client requests and building lasting relationships with event organizers. Staying abreast of industry trends and innovations is essential to maintaining a competitive edge. You will utilize tools like SimpleView, CRM programs, and lead-generating portals to track progress and maintain accurate records while managing multiple tasks under pressure.
Candidates will be evaluated based on their experience in sports sales, event management, or tourism, along with their ability to communicate effectively and manage complex schedules. The selection process includes a review of qualifications, including a preference for bilingual candidates (Spanish and English), and an assessment of relevant work history.
