This role is part of the L3Harris Space Systems Sector within the Space and Mission Systems (SMS) Segment. As the largest and fastest-growing segment within L3Harris, SMS is well-positioned for continued success in the space domain. The team develops products that perform a variety of missions for customers, utilizing both space-based and ground-based applications. Systems Engineers in this group lead technology across the entire system lifecycle, engaging in all critical phases and milestone reviews from pursuit through system operation.
The Optical Systems Engineer supports the program team by performing critical functions including requirements management, interface management, system design, and risk and opportunity management. You will lead event-based activities such as RCCAs, FRBs, and MRBs, while addressing open action items to ensure program success. This position requires the ability to work and lead in collaborative environments, fostering the success of the overall team.
In this role, you will evaluate customer and operational needs to define and coordinate system performance requirements, integrating technical parameters to assure compatibility of all physical, functional, and program interfaces. You will support the integration of optical terminals into satellite architectures, collaborating with engineering teams on system design, testing, and validation. Additionally, you will interface with Engineering, Operations, Quality, and other supporting functions to drive defect resolution to root cause and generate improvements in product and test design methodologies to reduce cost and increase yield.
