Senior Specialist, Systems Engineering (Optical)

About the Team

This role is part of the L3Harris Space Systems Sector within the Space and Mission Systems (SMS) Segment. As the largest and fastest-growing segment within L3Harris, SMS is well-positioned for continued success in the space domain. The products developed by this team support a variety of missions for customers, encompassing both space-based and ground-based applications. Systems Engineers in this group lead technology across the entire system lifecycle, engaging in all critical phases and milestone reviews from pursuit through system operation.

About the Role

The Optical Systems Engineer supports the program team by performing critical functions such as requirements management, interface management, system design, and risk and opportunity management. You will lead event-based activities including RCCAs, FRBs, and MRBs, while addressing open action items to ensure program success. This position focuses on optical communications and the application of electrical engineering principles into hardware, specifically supporting the integration of optical terminals into satellite architectures.

In this collaborative environment, you will evaluate customer and operational needs to define system performance requirements and ensure the compatibility of physical, functional, and program interfaces. The role involves working directly with engineering personnel to support the test and troubleshooting of systems, modules, and sub-assemblies of RF modules. You will interface with Engineering, Operations, and Quality teams to drive defect resolution to root cause and generate improvements in product and test design to reduce cost and increase yield. Additionally, you will participate in and potentially lead business pursuit efforts, executing design trades to support technical decisions.
