The Clinical Supervisor serves as a vital leader within the Nursing Department, operating under the direction of the Nursing Department Director/Manager. This role is dedicated to ensuring the ongoing safety, quality, and operational efficiency of the clinical department. By applying sound human resource and budget principles, the Clinical Supervisor guides the daily provision of nursing services to patients and their families.
The position requires active collaboration with the interdisciplinary team to support comprehensive patient and family services. The Clinical Supervisor acts as both a manager and a hands-on caregiver, supervising nursing associates while stepping in to provide direct patient care when necessary. A key aspect of the role involves coaching and guiding employees to demonstrate current, comprehensive professional knowledge in conformance with recognized nursing standards, including the Patient Bill of Rights, Joint Commission/CMS regulations, and the New Mexico Nurse Practice Act.
In this dynamic environment, the Clinical Supervisor ensures the smooth flow of unit operations. Responsibilities include assigning unit tasks, managing meal and break times, and collaborating with the Patient Flow Supervisor to optimize patient placement based on individual needs. The role demands a proactive approach to compliance, where the supervisor monitors and coaches staff on infection control, hourly rounding, patient communication boards, and National Patient Safety Goals.
Patient safety is paramount. The Clinical Supervisor monitors fall risk and skin at-risk programs, oversees pain management regimes, and ensures strict adherence to IV therapy, blood administration, and medication safety guidelines. As a clinical resource, the supervisor supports associates through complex clinical situations and invasive device management. During shifts, the role involves performing emergency equipment checks and serving as the primary responder to emergent events, including Code Blue Alerts and Rapid Response Teams, coordinating measures to sustain life.
Beyond clinical oversight, the role involves significant administrative and developmental duties. The supervisor assists in developing unit schedules, determining real-time staffing needs based on census and patient acuity, and participating in the selection and education of new associates. This includes conducting interviews, setting performance expectations, and completing timely evaluations.
Candidates must be a graduate of an accredited school of Nursing and hold a current RN license in the State of New Mexico. For positions in Behavioral Health and the Emergency Department, a current CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) certification or equivalent must be obtained within six months of hire.
Multiple shifts are available for this full-time position. Interested candidates should ensure they can demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the assigned unit.
We are committed to fostering a culture of safety and excellence where every team member is empowered to uphold the highest standards of nursing care. We value the diverse backgrounds and perspectives of our staff and believe that a supportive environment is essential for both patient outcomes and employee growth.
