About the Role

As a Registered Nurse at YNHH, you will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individual patient care on a specialized nursing unit according to established policies and procedures. You will provide supervision to non-RN personnel and, when assuming the charge role, delegate and supervise unit activities. This role requires flexibility to work on other nursing units as needed to support staff and patient distribution.

You will function as a vital member of the healthcare team, collaborating with physicians and families to develop and communicate individualized plans of care. Your day involves ongoing assessment of patients' physical and psychosocial conditions, coordinating interventions, and evaluating the effectiveness of care. You will also serve as a preceptor to new staff and ensure high standards of customer service and teamwork.

Our Specialized Units

We offer opportunities within our high-acuity Heart and Vascular Cardiac ICU (5-1 SP), a 14-bed unit caring for adult patients with complex cardiac diagnoses such as myocardial infarction, cardiogenic shock, and heart failure. Our staff are trained in advanced heart failure management, including mechanical circulatory support devices like intra-aortic balloon pumps, Impella catheters, and LVADs.

You may also join the RN-HVC Cardiothoracic ICU (CTICU/WP3), an 18-bed unit specializing in complex post-operative cardiac surgery, including CABG, valve replacements, and heart transplants. This is the only unit in the YNHH health system that cares for patients requiring ECMO (Veno-Venous or Veno-Arterial). Nurses here are trained on advanced devices including IABP, Impella/VADs, and CRRT.

Additionally, the HVC Cardiovascular ICU and Stepdown (5-4 SP) is a 14-bed hybrid unit featuring 8 ICU beds and 6 stepdown beds. This unit specializes in patients post-complex vascular surgery (such as aortic repairs) and post-cardiac surgery patients, while the stepdown beds accommodate a variety of complex heart and vascular diagnoses.
