About the Role

As a Registered Nurse, you will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individual patient care on a specialized nursing unit according to established policies and procedures. You will provide supervision to non-RN personnel and, when assuming the charge role, delegate and supervise unit activities. This position requires the flexibility to work on other nursing units as needed to support staff and patient distribution.

You will function as a preceptor to new staff and demonstrate specialized competency in neuro, cardiac, and vascular care. Your day-to-day involves collaborating with the healthcare team to develop and communicate individualized plans of care, evaluating patient responses, and providing education to patients and families. You will also perform critical interventions such as airway management, suctioning, and caring for patients on ventilators or with complex devices like ECMO, LVADs, and IABPs.

Our Specialized Units

Heart and Vascular Cardiac ICU (5-1 SP) A fast-paced, high-acuity, 14-bed critical care unit caring for adult patients with complex cardiac and medical diagnoses, including myocardial infarction, cardiogenic shock, unstable arrhythmias, and heart failure. Our team is trained in advanced heart failure management, including short- and long-term mechanical circulatory support.

RN-HVC Cardiothoracic ICU (CTICU/WP3) An 18-bed cardiac surgery unit specializing in care for complex post-operative patients, including CABG, valve replacements, aortic dissection repairs, heart transplants, and LVAD implantations. This is the only unit in the YNHH health system that cares for patients requiring ECMO (VV or VA). Nurses are trained on devices based on experience and critical thinking progression.

HVC Cardiovascular ICU and Stepdown (5-4 SP) A 14-bed hybrid unit consisting of 8 ICU and 6 stepdown beds. We specialize in caring for patients post-complex vascular surgery (such as aortic repairs) and post-cardiac surgery patients in the ICU beds, while the stepdown beds accommodate patients with a variety of complex heart and vascular diagnoses.
