The Purchasing Manager leads the Supply Chain division within Busse, reporting directly to the Director of Supply Chain. This role is pivotal in fostering strategic relationships with key suppliers to ensure the cost-effective, timely, and high-quality procurement of materials, supplies, equipment, and services. The team operates within a well-lit, air-conditioned office and production setting, balancing administrative precision with the dynamic needs of a manufacturing environment.
This position is designed to drive continuous improvement in purchasing processes while maintaining rigorous adherence to company policies and best practices. The Purchasing Manager oversees the daily operations of the department, including expediting, cost analysis, negotiation, and supplier relationship management. A core aspect of the role involves bridging the gap between external suppliers and internal stakeholders such as Engineering and Project Management to resolve material availability issues and secure approvals for alternates.
The day-to-day rhythm involves managing the supply base through performance reviews, vetting new partners based on risk and capability, and collaborating with Production and Inventory Control to align with Material Requirements Planning (MRP). The role requires independent judgment to navigate complex intellectual and practical problems, utilizing logical thinking to apply principles of scientific and mathematical concepts to business challenges. While the environment is primarily administrative, the role includes minimal physical activity and up to 10% travel for business needs.
Candidates will be evaluated on their ability to perform essential duties, including the management of purchasing strategies, supplier audits, and ERP data maintenance. The selection process focuses on identifying individuals with the requisite knowledge, skills, and ability to interpret technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents, as well as the capacity to present information effectively to top management.
