To join the Army Medical Corps as a Psychiatrist, candidates must be U.S. citizens between the ages of 21 and 42 (waivers may be granted on a case-by-case basis). Applicants must hold a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy degree from an accredited U.S. school of medicine or osteopathy; foreign graduates may apply with a permanent certificate from the Educational Council of Foreign Medical Graduates.
Candidates must possess a current license to practice medicine in the United States, the District of Columbia, or Puerto Rico, and be eligible for board certification. Additionally, you must have completed at least one year of an approved graduate medical education internship and a training program in psychiatry or a residency in the U.S.
Joining the Army Medical Corps provides a competitive benefit package designed to support your professional and personal life. Eligible psychiatrists may receive repayment of qualified education loans to lending institutions, paid annually over a maximum of three years while serving. Depending on your area of concentration, you may also be eligible for an accessions bonus paid over a four-year period.
