HII's Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) division is the largest industrial employer in Virginia, employing more than 25,000 people, including third-, fourth-, and fifth-generation shipbuilders. As the sole designer, builder, and refueler of U.S. Navy nuclear aircraft carriers and one of two providers of U.S. Navy nuclear submarines, we are anchored in a rich 135-year history. Our diverse team ranges from skilled trades to engineers, software developers, and system architects, all collaborating at the forefront of technology, manufacturing, and the integration of the world's most powerful and survivable naval ships.
This position serves as a critical hub for production flow, ensuring that approved materials arrive just in time to meet rigorous production requirements. You will plan, prepare, and control production schedules while coordinating closely with material requirements to maintain a controlled workflow. Your day involves advising management on the status of work in progress, material availability, and potential production challenges to ensure that personnel, equipment, and services are deployed effectively.
You will be responsible for scheduling equipment and personnel, confirming material supply and demands, and preparing work orders or purchase requests based on master production schedules, shop loads, and inventory needs. A key part of your role is coordinating interdepartmental activity with quality assurance, manufacturing, purchasing, engineering, and inventory control to expedite the movement of parts through move orders and stock transfers. Success in this role requires a well-rounded knowledge of company operations, production processes, ship systems, network scheduling principles, and Reactor Plant Controlled Material Procedures (RPCMP). You will work closely with Engineering, Design, Shop Planners, and Trades to develop and maintain Engineering Bills of Material.
At HII, we build the world's most powerful, survivable naval ships and defense technology solutions that safeguard our seas, sky, land, space, and cyber.
