The Respiratory Therapist (RRT) serves as a vital member of the healthcare team, dedicated to delivering high-quality, patient-centered respiratory care. Working under the direction of physicians and established organizational policies, this role is essential for promoting effective treatment, disease prevention, and rehabilitation. The position focuses on administering pharmacological, diagnostic, and therapeutic agents while ensuring patient safety and accurate documentation throughout the care continuum.

Day in the Life

In this role, you will collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, and leadership to manage complex patient needs. Your day involves performing comprehensive assessments, monitoring patient responses to treatment, and implementing tailored care plans. You will be responsible for managing ventilator settings, maintaining airway safety, and conducting specialized procedures such as Arterial Blood Gas (ABG) punctures and pulmonary testing.

A significant portion of your time is dedicated to patient education, orienting individuals to treatment modalities to ensure cooperation and successful outcomes. You will also maintain the highest standards of infection control and safety by managing personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensuring all respiratory therapy equipment is functioning correctly. Whether handling routine care or initiating interventions during emergency situations, you will apply clinical judgment to stabilize patients and support their recovery across all age groups.
