The Prairie View A&M University Police Department is dedicated to maintaining a safe and secure environment for the university community. The Police Sergeant serves as a critical leadership figure under direction, supervising officers and police personnel to ensure the effective enforcement of laws and university rules. This role is designed to bridge operational command with community engagement, ensuring that safety protocols are not only implemented but also understood and respected across campus.
In this position, you will manage a squad of security officers, particularly during special events, and function as a key point of contact for external agencies. The day-to-day involves a dynamic mix of administrative oversight and field operations, including investigating offenses, managing crime scenes, and preparing comprehensive reports. You will also play a pivotal role in the professional development of your team by providing training and in-service seminars.
Beyond the station, the Sergeant acts as a public face of law enforcement, testifying in various courts and engaging with the community on topics ranging from crime prevention to policing strategies. This role requires the flexibility to work beyond normal office hours and on weekends to meet the evolving needs of the university.
