Physical Therapist Assistant

About the Role

A Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) works under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist (PT) to assist in the implementation of treatment plans designed to help patients recover from injuries, surgeries, or conditions that impair movement and mobility. PTAs play a key role in rehabilitation by performing hands-on therapy, monitoring patient progress, and helping patients restore physical function, improve mobility, and reduce pain.

In this role, you will be the hands-on partner to the supervising PT, guiding patients through prescribed exercises and ensuring correct form to achieve optimal results. Your day involves administering therapeutic exercises, manual therapy techniques, and modalities such as hot/cold packs, ultrasound, and electrical stimulation. You will utilize equipment like treadmills and resistance machines to aid recovery while providing essential emotional support, encouragement, and motivation throughout the rehabilitation process.

Beyond direct treatment, you will serve as a vital educator, teaching patients exercises, stretches, and home care strategies to enhance recovery and prevent re-injury. You will also instruct patients on the safe usage of assistive devices like walkers and crutches. As a collaborative member of the healthcare team, you will work closely with physicians, nurses, and the supervising PT to ensure coordinated care, participating in team meetings to discuss patient progress and contribute to modifying treatment plans as necessary.

Compliance and Safety

Maintaining a safe environment is paramount. You will adhere to strict infection control standards, ensure therapy areas are tidy and organized, and follow all health and safety guidelines to avoid potential injuries to patients or yourself. You will also ensure compliance with HIPAA and other legal and regulatory requirements when documenting patient interactions, progress notes, and treatment summaries.
