The Nutritionist I serves as a frontline provider of essential nutrition services within the WIC Program, supporting clients eligible for federal assistance. This role focuses on assessing the nutritional needs of the community, primarily working with low-risk clients while remaining prepared to address high-risk cases when necessary. The position is vital for bridging the gap between clinical nutrition and community health, ensuring that individuals receive personalized education and care plans tailored to their unique circumstances.
In this capacity, you will act as both an educator and a connector. Your day involves conducting comprehensive nutritional assessments using anthropometric, biochemical, and dietary data to determine eligibility and identify health risks. You will translate these findings into actionable care plans, delivering individual and group education on topics ranging from general nutrition to specific breastfeeding support. Beyond direct client interaction, the role requires maintaining accurate records of daily activities and making strategic referrals to community agencies, healthcare providers, and specialized staff to ensure holistic support for families.
A critical aspect of this position is adaptability and readiness. As a member of the Cumberland County Department of Public Health team, you may be called upon at any time to assist with public health emergencies. This includes responding to outbreak investigations, staffing mass dispensing or immunization clinics, providing disaster relief, or managing other incidents as directed by the Health Director.
Candidates must submit documentation of their registration status from the Commission on Dietetic Registration, along with university transcripts or a CADE verification statement. These documents can be submitted online via the attachment feature or mailed to the Cumberland County Department of Public Health Human Resources at 1235 Ramsey Street, Fayetteville, NC 28301. Unofficial transcripts are acceptable for the application phase; however, official transcripts will be required upon selection for employment.
