Network Administrator

About the Role

GovCIO is seeking a Systems Administrator to support the US Army North Information Technology Directorate (G-6) at Ft Sam Houston, Texas. In this onsite capacity, you will serve as a critical component of the command's operational backbone, providing comprehensive Help Desk, Network Operations, Engineering, and Cybersecurity support.

This role exists to ensure the seamless administration, maintenance, and security of US Army North's computer networks. You will collaborate closely with IT staff and company employees to identify system needs, oversee the installation of new hardware and software, and resolve complex network issues. Your work will directly impact the reliability of large-scale systems projects, including LAN, MAN, and WAN communications.

Day in the Life

Your daily activities will involve a dynamic mix of proactive monitoring and reactive problem-solving. You will analyze network traffic, troubleshoot performance issues, and compile essential records and reports on network operations. A significant portion of your time will be dedicated to system-level configuration, determining specifications for software, hardware, and operating systems across both on-premises and cloud environments (IaaS/PaaS/SaaS).

You will be the first line of defense for NIPRNET and SIPRNET environments, monitoring hardware and software for anomalies. When issues arise, you will execute standard response procedures: identifying the problem, notifying appropriate personnel, performing troubleshooting or replacement, and confirming the return to normal operations. Additionally, you will utilize specialized tools to diagnose complex factors affecting network performance and provide capacity planning solutions to support future growth.
