About the Company

Butler America Aerospace, LLC. is a leading American-owned aerospace and defense company. We are seeking a Metallurgical Lab Technician to join our Additive Manufacturing facility in Monroe, NC. This role is critical to ensuring product and process conformity to defined specifications, customer standards, and controlled procedures.

About the Role

In this hands-on, laboratory-focused position, you will perform metallurgical and material verification testing to directly support production readiness, quality compliance, and SPQDC performance. You will execute specimen preparation, perform metallurgical evaluations, maintain test equipment, and ensure accurate, traceable digital data entry within MES and QMS systems.

The ideal candidate brings strong attention to detail, precision in laboratory practice, and familiarity with metal testing methods. You will work closely with Materials Scientists, Quality Engineers, and Operations teams to coordinate material flow, investigate nonconformances, and support continuous improvement of material verification workflows. This role requires the ability to follow established procedures while engaging in global collaboration via occasional Zoom meetings outside standard hours.

Key Responsibilities

  • check_circleConduct metallurgical and material verification tests per defined specifications
  • check_circlePerform precise sample preparation including sectioning, mounting, polishing, and etching
  • check_circleExecute elemental analysis using atomic spectroscopy and gas combustion methodologies
  • check_circleMaintain calibration readiness and perform routine maintenance on metallurgical test equipment
  • check_circleRecord and maintain traceable digital test data within MES and QMS systems
  • check_circleSupport PPAP, MSA, and FAI metallurgical testing for new production builds
  • check_circleIdentify and document out-of-spec conditions or nonconformances for engineering review
  • check_circleTrack and maintain consumable inventories including chemicals for sample preparation
  • check_circleEvaluate material properties such as microstructure, hardness, density, and tensile strength
  • check_circleCoordinate with Materials Scientists and Quality Engineers on testing requirements and investigations

Nice to Have

Hands-on experience in atomic spectroscopy and gas combustion analysis, including sample preparation techniques and instrument-specific software, with a strong chemistry background related to ICP analysis. Experience with additive manufacturing or metal powder-based production environments. Familiarity with microstructural evaluation methods, hardness testing, density analysis, or special process validations. Experience capturing digital test data, documenting results, and working within MES/QMS systems. Knowledge of metal powder handling, sampling, or testing. Ability to understand and write standard work instructions, laboratory procedures, or test method documentation. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with an interest in continuous improvement of lab workflows.
