About the Role

Northrop Grumman Space Systems, Multi-Domain Operations, and Missile Defense Integration Business Unit has an exciting career opportunity for a Principal Mechanical Engineer - Level 3 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals in Huntsville, AL.

As a Principal Mechanical Engineer, you will support the GMD Weapon System (GWS) Hardware Engineering team's design efforts within an Agile environment. This role is designed for those who thrive in fast-paced environments and possess a hands-on mentality. You will perform Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Finite Element Analysis, review analyses, and provide oversight to junior engineers developing analysis products. Additionally, you will maintain design drawings for multiple Ground Systems (GS) IPT hardware systems and manage their interfaces with facilities. You will lead small teams, write reports to support milestone reviews, and actively participate in internal and external demos to document progress on team dashboards.

Nice to Have

BS in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering. Excellent interpersonal, written communication, and presentation skills. Experience leading a small team. Experience in system engineering knowledge areas (technical planning, requirements derivation, functional analysis, timeline analysis, trade studies, cost and risk analysis, interface definition, system design, system integration, verification and validation, supportability, and effectiveness analyses). Experience using analytical software tools to analyze and reduce data. Experience with mission critical and safety critical systems. Familiarity with Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Core Standards. Familiarity with the GMD domain and GMD Launch Support Systems hardware. Hands-on mentality and a passion for fast-paced environments. Experience with Finite Element Analysis and Modeling theory and application using industry standard structural analysis software. DOORS and/or CAMEO exposure. Prior experience with the design, test, and/or integration and deployment of mechanical and structural components, systems, or subsystems.
