Interstate Waste Services (IWS) stands as the most progressive and innovative provider of solid waste and recycling services across the greater New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut markets, with a rail-served landfill in Ohio. Since our founding in 1998, we have grown through strategic acquisitions, many of which were family-owned businesses that remain integral to our team today. This unique evolution allows us to combine the robust resources of a large corporation with the enduring values and care of a family-run business.
Our mission is deeply rooted in delivering high-quality waste, recycling, and environmental services while prioritizing the safety of our employees, customers, and communities. We serve a diverse clientele ranging from industrial and medical facilities to commercial and residential customers.
The Level B Fleet Mechanic/Technician serves as a journeyman-level professional dedicated to the independent diagnosis and repair of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues across our refuse trucks, heavy trucks/tractors, trailers, and heavy equipment. This role is pivotal in ensuring high fleet uptime and strict Department of Transportation (DOT) compliance.
Beyond technical repairs, you will play a key leadership role by mentoring Level C technicians, guiding them on best practices, safety protocols, and troubleshooting methods. Your day-to-day involves responding to road calls and breakdowns throughout the NYC tri-state area, performing safe temporary or permanent repairs to return vehicles to service, and coordinating towing when necessary. You will act as a bridge between the shop floor and the road, communicating clearly with dispatch, supervisors, and drivers to manage repair status and estimated completion times.
Interstate Waste Services is committed to providing equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants. We prohibit discrimination and harassment of any type without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state, or local laws. This policy applies to all terms and conditions of employment, including recruiting, hiring, placement, promotion, termination, and training.
