About the Role
The Level B Fleet Mechanic/Technician serves as a journeyman-level expert responsible for the independent diagnosis and repair of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues across our refuse trucks, heavy tractors, trailers, and heavy equipment. This role is pivotal in maintaining high fleet uptime and ensuring strict DOT compliance.
In this position, you will not only troubleshoot complex systems ranging from diesel engines and drivetrains to hydraulic refuse equipment and multiplex wiring but also play a key leadership role by mentoring Level C technicians. You will be the go-to resource for road calls and breakdowns throughout the tri-state area, performing safe temporary or permanent repairs to return vehicles to service. Your work ensures that our fleet operates safely and efficiently, directly supporting our commitment to our customers and the communities we serve.

Key Responsibilities
- check_circlePerform DOT-compliant inspections and preventive maintenance on refuse trucks and heavy equipment
- check_circleRespond to road calls and breakdowns to perform safe temporary or permanent repairs
- check_circleMentor Level C technicians on best practices, safety, and troubleshooting methods
- check_circleComplete detailed work orders capturing complaint, cause, correction, labor hours, and parts used
- check_circleInterpret and close out DVIR/eDVIR defects while communicating recurring issues to leadership
- check_circleUtilize OEM diagnostic software, service bulletins, and wiring schematics to troubleshoot complex issues
- check_circleIndependently diagnose and repair diesel and gasoline engines, drivetrain components, and hydraulic systems
Requirements
- verifiedHigh school diploma or GED
- verified3–5+ years hands-on experience as a diesel, truck, or heavy equipment mechanic
- verifiedValid CDL Class B (or higher) with air brake endorsement
- verifiedProficiency with hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems
- verifiedAbility to read OEM service manuals, wiring diagrams, and hydraulic schematics
- verifiedASE certifications in Medium/Heavy Truck (T series) or Truck Equipment (E series)
- verifiedBasic welding and cutting skills (MIG, stick, torch)
- verifiedFamiliarity with computerized fleet maintenance and parts inventory systems
Nice to Have
Valid CDL Class B (or higher) with air brake endorsement. Experience in refuse/solid waste, municipal, or LTL/heavy trucking fleet operating in urban environments. ASE certifications in Medium/Heavy Truck (T series) or Truck Equipment (E series), working toward Master status. Basic welding and cutting skills (MIG, stick, torch). Familiarity with computerized fleet maintenance and parts inventory systems.
