Interstate Waste Services (IWS) stands as the most progressive and innovative provider of solid waste and recycling services across the greater New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut markets, complemented by a rail-served landfill in Ohio. Since our founding in 1998, we have grown through strategic acquisitions, many of which were family-owned businesses that remain integral to our team today. This unique evolution allows us to combine the robust resources of a large corporation with the enduring values and care of a family-run business.
Our mission is to deliver high-quality waste, recycling, and environmental services while prioritizing the safety of our employees, customers, and communities. We serve a diverse clientele ranging from industrial and medical facilities to commercial and residential sectors.
As a Level B Fleet Mechanic/Technician, you will serve as a journeyman-level expert responsible for the independent diagnosis and repair of complex mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues across our refuse trucks, heavy tractors, trailers, and heavy equipment. This role is pivotal in ensuring high fleet uptime and strict Department of Transportation (DOT) compliance.
In this position, you will not only troubleshoot and repair diesel and gasoline engines, drivetrains, brake systems, and hydraulic refuse equipment but also mentor Level C technicians. Your day-to-day involves responding to road calls and breakdowns throughout the NYC tri-state area, performing safe temporary or permanent repairs to return vehicles to service, and coordinating with dispatch and supervisors to minimize downtime. You will play a key role in continuous improvement initiatives, helping to reduce repeat repairs and standardize parts usage.
Interstate Waste Services provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment. We prohibit discrimination and harassment of any type without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state, or local laws.
