We are seeking a skilled Marine Carpenter to join our team in New Orleans, Louisiana. This position is vital for maintaining the integrity and aesthetic quality of marine vessels, focusing on the construction, repair, and installation of wooden and composite structures. The ideal candidate brings strong carpentry skills, a keen attention to detail, and specific experience working within marine environments.
You will be responsible for both interior and exterior carpentry projects, ranging from custom cabinetry and trim work to decking, bulkheads, and structural framing. Success in this role requires the ability to interpret complex blueprints, select and work with marine-grade materials, and collaborate seamlessly with other marine trades to ensure all craftsmanship meets industry standards.
This role is based in shipyards, boatyards, and marine repair facilities. The work environment is dynamic, requiring you to perform tasks both indoors and outdoors, often directly onboard vessels. The position is physically demanding, involving work in confined spaces and exposure to marine conditions. You must be prepared to lift heavy materials and stand for extended periods while maintaining a clean and organized workspace.
Candidates are invited to apply by answering a series of screening questions regarding their carpentry experience, specifically their background in marine or boat work, familiarity with yacht building or refit projects, and ability to read technical drawings. Please be prepared to discuss your experience with marine materials such as teak, laminates, and fiberglass, as well as your comfort level working in shipyards and confined spaces.
