Key Responsibilities

  • check_circleManage a full caseload of removal defense and asylum cases
  • check_circleOversee and delegate work of staff and volunteers while providing training
  • check_circleManage relationships with partners, donors, grantors, and elected officials
  • check_circleAssist with grant writing and oversee preparation of grant deliverable reports
  • check_circleSupport strategic external messaging on immigration policy and reform issues
  • check_circleCreate and supervise outreach and educational strategies to increase department impact
  • check_circleParticipate in and supervise coalitions advocating for immigrants' rights
  • check_circleSupervise and monitor client referrals to third-party legal and social service providers
  • check_circlePrepare and submit immigration applications, petitions, motions, and appeals
  • check_circleMonitor and improve service delivery to manage client engagement and expectations
  • check_circleProvide full-scope legal representation before DHS, EOIR, and federal courts
  • check_circleResearch legal sources to draft memos, advisories, and training materials

Requirements

  • verifiedLaw degree from an American Bar Association accredited school
  • verifiedLicensed to practice law in any state, preferably California
  • verified5+ years of experience in immigration rights and legal services
  • verified3+ years of experience in removal defense cases
  • verified3+ years of experience in affirmative relief (asylum, TPS, family-based petitions, U-visa, SIJS, VAWA, T-visa, adjustment of status, naturalization)
  • verified3+ years of experience in supervising, mentoring, and/or training attorneys and other staff
  • verifiedFluent/proficient in Arabic, Farsi/Dari, Pashto, or Urdu (preferred)
  • verifiedExperience working with nonprofit organizations and the Muslim community (preferred)
  • verifiedAccess to reliable transportation
