Lynden Transport is seeking a Local Driver to operate tractor-trailer combinations or straight trucks for cargo freight transportation. This role is critical to ensuring the safe and efficient movement of goods within the local area, adhering to all company procedures and governmental regulations.
In this position, you will drive to specified destinations while navigating varying speeds and challenging conditions, including heavy traffic, inclement weather, and tight loading or unloading dock areas. You will maintain constant communication with dispatchers to receive instructions for pickups and deliveries. The role involves loading and unloading trailers, securing cargo with straps, tarps, ropes, and chains, and performing necessary physical tasks such as lifting, pushing, and pulling freight. You will also be responsible for inspecting the vehicle for defects, maintaining logs, and ensuring all shipping documents are complete and accurate.
Applicants must be at least 21 years old with a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License, including a hazardous materials endorsement. A high school diploma or GED is required, along with the ability to read and interpret safety regulations and operating manuals. Candidates must possess strong mathematical skills for calculations involving units of measure and the ability to communicate effectively with managers, customers, and the public. This role requires a good driving record and the physical capability to work in outdoor weather conditions, handle heavy equipment, and lift up to 75 pounds.
