The YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids is dedicated to creating opportunities for all to learn, discover, and grow. Our aquatic facilities serve as vibrant community hubs where children and adults can interact, enjoy, and build confidence in a safe environment. We are committed to fostering a culture of inclusion, ensuring that every visitor feels welcome regardless of their background, age, or lifestyle.
As a Lifeguard, you are the guardian of our aquatic facility, responsible for securing the safety of pool occupants and program participants. Your role goes beyond supervision; you are the face of our commitment to safety and fun. You will enforce aquatic rules, maintain a clean and obstruction-free deck, and ensure that all safety standards and State of Michigan Department of Health requirements are met.
This position is vital to the smooth operation of our pools, which are open seven days a week. You will be expected to work at least one full shift per week, with a requirement to cover one weekend shift monthly to ensure fair coverage. While the role involves technical duties like monitoring pool temperatures, chemicals, and equipment, the core of your day is dedicated to being alert, observant, and ready to administer First Aid and CPR when needed.
We offer in-house, American Red Cross lifeguard training and certification sessions at no cost to qualified candidates. To apply, please ensure you meet the minimum age requirement of sixteen years and possess the ability to interact with people from diverse backgrounds. Successful candidates will be required to obtain CPR for rescue certification and First Aid certification within the first 60 days of employment, along with completing Blood Borne Pathogen training and obtaining State of Michigan criminal background clearance (ICHAT).
The YMCA is an equal opportunity employer. We believe in the power of community and strive to provide a workplace where diversity is celebrated and every team member can thrive. We offer professional growth opportunities, including ongoing training and career advancement, alongside a comprehensive benefits package that includes a free individual membership, retirement savings contributions, and paid sick time.
