This role supports the Biodefense Reference Material Repository (BRMR) within the Diagnostic Systems Division. The team operates within highly regulated environments to produce reference materials used across Department of Defense laboratories, ensuring the integrity of diagnostic, training, and proficiency testing efforts.

Key Responsibilities
- check_circleSafely work with infectious agents and biological select agents in BSL-2, BSL-3, and BSL-4 environments
- check_circleApply and maintain competency in ISO-compliant laboratory procedures within the BRMR
- check_circleSupport the production and characterization of accredited reference materials
- check_circlePrepare viable and non-viable biological samples for distribution to DoD laboratories
- check_circleAccurately complete, file, and peer review laboratory documentation including production records
- check_circleMaintain organized and up-to-date laboratory records and internal databases
- check_circleSupport internal audits related to ISO 17025 and 17034 standards and contribute to process improvement
- check_circleCross-train across laboratory functions to support broader division research and operational needs
- check_circleAssist in the preparation of technical reports, SOPs, and documentation as needed
- check_circleMaintain a clean, safe, and secure laboratory environment in accordance with established protocols
Requirements
- verifiedActive secret clearance or ability to obtain and maintain
- verifiedBachelor's degree in Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, or related field
- verified2–5 years experience in microbiology, virology, or regulated laboratory
- verifiedAbility to obtain and maintain BPRP certification
- verifiedAbility to work in high-containment laboratory environments
- verifiedMust pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal
Nice to Have
Experience working in high-containment laboratories (BSL-2/3; BSL-4 exposure a plus). Experience working with viral agents. Familiarity with ISO 17025 and/or 17034 standards. Prior experience supporting federal laboratory environments (DoD, CDC, or similar).
