About Maxterial

Maxterial is an innovative, mid-stage venture capital-backed private company specializing in advanced chemical and coating technologies. With headquarters in the San Francisco Bay Area and offices in Michigan, the company is expanding its presence into Europe. Maxterial is supported by prominent investors and corporations, including Anglo American, Saint-Gobain, the Peter Thiel Foundation, and the Schmidt Family Foundation.

Over the past eight years, Maxterial has developed and validated a revolutionary metallic coating technology platform designed to protect against wear, heat, and corrosion. This technology is safe, durable, cost-effective, high-performing, patent-protected, and scalable. It has garnered significant interest across various industry sectors, including semiconductors, automotive, heavy-duty equipment, and aerospace. Maxterial is actively working to reduce CO2 emissions and eliminate dangerous chemicals such as Hexavalent chromium and PFAS/PFOS. We invite you to join our fast-paced team and contribute to making the world safer through the commercialization of our advanced technology.

Role Overview

The manufacturing of complex superalloy coatings involves numerous critical factors that influence the properties and performance of coating systems. As an Intern Scientist, you will analyze existing correlations among these functions and dependencies. Your role involves recognizing patterns and correlations, identifying any additional data collection needs, and utilizing your knowledge of Design of Experiments (DOE) to design subsequent experiments based on these findings.

Key Responsibilities

Working independently or in collaboration with senior team members, you will:

  • Apply advanced statistical techniques to identify patterns and correlations within data, generating insights for various state-of-the-art super-alloy systems and coatings.
  • Design, develop, and evaluate experimental models to optimize outcomes in multifactorial experiments.
  • Utilize advanced statistical methods, including analysis of variance (ANOVA), multivariate analyses, and other relevant techniques, to analyze data and assess the effects of experimentation.
  • Assist in performing advanced analyses on real-world and laboratory data to design new experiments and improve existing methodologies.
  • Perform necessary data entry and cleaning tasks to ensure data integrity.

Qualifications and Requirements

We are seeking candidates who meet the following criteria:

  • Education: Ideal candidates are currently pursuing or have obtained a Master’s or PhD in Statistics, Data Science, Computer Science (with a Data Science emphasis), or another highly analytical and quantitative field.
  • Technical Skills: Experience with data cleaning and manipulation is required. Proficiency in statistical software, specifically SPSS and JMP, is necessary. A deep understanding of Design of Experiments and previous experience with multifactorial analysis are essential.
  • Communication: Strong oral and written communication skills are required.
  • Software Proficiency: Experience with the Microsoft environment, including Windows OS, Office 365, and Teams.

Location and Compensation

  • Location: Remote
  • Compensation: $20 or above per hour

Why Join Us?

You will become part of a world-class team backed by renowned investors. This role offers the opportunity to drive revolutionary industry changes, improve industrial process efficiency, save lives, and protect the environment, allowing you to make a significant impact.
