Level I Pharmacists at WellSpan Health provide prescribed pharmaceuticals and drug information essential for patient care, adhering to professional standards and practices. This role encompasses routine distributive and clinical services, with time allocation in each domain determined by the specific needs of the facility and department.
The position serves as a foundational step in the Pharmacist Career Ladder Program (PCLP). Level I Pharmacists are expected to maintain the requirements outlined in the PCLP Mandatory and Optional Criteria Grids, with the opportunity to advance to a Level II Pharmacist position based on job performance and successful completion of established advancement criteria.
In this role, you will provide oversight of safe, accurate, and timely medication order verification, clarifying any discrepancies prior to dispensing. You will manage pharmacy operations, ensuring the integrity and security of medications across all care locations, including the handling of investigational drugs, injectable chemotherapy preparation, and controlled substance reconciliation.
You will collaborate with the healthcare team to deliver medication therapy management services, which may include pharmacokinetic evaluations, Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN) consults, anticoagulation management, renal dose adjustments, and IV-to-oral conversions. Additionally, you will educate patients and providers on medication therapy and safety, utilizing technology to enhance patient safety and reporting medication events to prevent future occurrences.
A core expectation of this role is a commitment to patient, visitor, and staff safety. You will actively participate in safety education programs, root cause analyses, and error reduction initiatives while maintaining professional growth through seminars and workshops to stay current with industry trends.
