Job Description
About the Role
The Hospital Coder applies skills and knowledge of currently mandated Inpatient coding and classification systems, and official resources to select the appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes (PCS), and other codes representing healthcare services (including substances, equipment, supplies, or other items used in the provision of healthcare services). This position is responsible for selecting and sequencing the codes such that the organization receives the optimal reimbursement to which the facility is legally entitled, remembering that it is unethical and illegal to increase reimbursement by means that contradict requirements.
This is a remote position within Health Information Services.

Key Responsibilities
- check_circleSelect and sequence diagnostic and procedural codes using ICD-10-CM/PCS guidelines
- check_circleEnsure accurate coding for optimal and legal reimbursement
- check_circleReport healthcare data elements accurately for regulatory and reimbursement purposes
- check_circleQuery providers for clarification on incomplete or ambiguous health record documentation
- check_circleOrganize and manage the shared drive for the medical coding department
- check_circleMaintain a secure remote work area to protect confidential health information
- check_circleParticipate in coding meetings, huddles, and LEAN problem-solving activities
Requirements
- verifiedHigh School Diploma/G.E.D. required
- verifiedCoding certification/credential through AHIMA or AAPC required
- verifiedPrior experience in hospital medical coding preferred
- verifiedPrior experience with 3M 360 and EPIC system preferred
- verifiedScore of 80% or above on coding assessment required
- verifiedKnowledge of ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, or CPT-4 required
