The Fire Alarm Apprentice serves as a foundational support to the Fire Alarm Superintendent, playing a critical role in the installation of fire alarm systems. This position is designed for individuals eager to launch a career in the Fire Life Safety industry, offering a structured path to develop the technical skills necessary to advance into a Fire Alarm & Security Technician role.
As an apprentice, you will work alongside project leads to install conduit, low-voltage wiring, control panels, and other essential fire alarm equipment. Your day involves maintaining tools in serviceable condition, managing job site cleanliness, and transporting equipment such as ladders and replacement parts to required locations.
A significant portion of your time is dedicated to learning and development. You will actively study NFPA 72 and NEC 70 standards to build the knowledge base required for NICET Certification. You will also participate in weekly Toolbox talks and strictly adhere to SFS's safety programs, including the SDS book and Hazardous Communication protocols, ensuring all safety documentation is accessible on every project.
This role requires a high degree of adaptability, with travel comprising approximately 90% of the time locally. You will regularly work outdoors, facing varying temperatures, dust, fumes, chemicals, electrical hazards, and noise. Occasional indoor office work is also required. The position demands physical stamina, including the ability to bend, climb ladders, lift weights up to and exceeding 50 lbs, and work at heights. Consistent use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory to ensure safety in these dynamic environments.
