About the Role
The Executive Director serves as the primary leader for a specific HSL community, responsible for the holistic success of the organization's operations. This role is not merely administrative; it is a strategic partnership that balances financial stewardship with the deep human connections required in senior living. You will be the face of the community, ensuring that the environment is vibrant, safe, and aligned with HSL's core values.
In this position, you will drive the community's strategic and tactical direction, optimizing performance while cultivating a positive atmosphere for residents, families, and staff. Your day-to-day involves navigating complex regulatory landscapes, managing financial health through rigorous budgeting and capital planning, and fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration. You will act as a bridge between the community and HSL's central leadership, ensuring alignment with the R3 Program and organizational goals while building strong relationships with local government, vendors, and the broader community.
Hiring Process
Candidates selected for this role will engage in a comprehensive interview process designed to assess both leadership capabilities and cultural fit. This typically includes:
- Initial Screening: A conversation with Human Resources to discuss background and alignment with HSL's mission.
- Leadership Interview: A deep-dive session with the Senior Living Executive Vice President and regional leadership to explore strategic vision and operational expertise.
- Community Engagement: An opportunity to meet with key stakeholders, including staff and potentially community representatives, to demonstrate interpersonal skills and leadership style.
- Final Review: A final discussion with the Senior Staff to confirm fit and discuss next steps.

Key Responsibilities

- check_circleMonitor marketing strategies and census goals to ensure efficient apartment turnovers
- check_circleConduct contract negotiations with vendors and utilize minority and women-owned businesses
- check_circleEstablish and maintain relationships with regulatory agencies, government officials, and community groups
- check_circleCollaborate with executive leadership to develop long-range community strategies and growth opportunities
- check_circleManage employee engagement, professional growth, and resolve staff grievances proactively
- check_circleParticipate in the design, development, zoning, and financing of new community sites
- check_circleDevelop and oversee annual operating budgets, staffing forecasts, and capital expense planning
- check_circleEnsure compliance with safety, fair housing guidelines, and mitigate operational risks

Requirements
- verifiedBachelor's degree
- verified10–15 years' experience in management, senior living, or relevant experience
- verifiedPrior experience developing and managing a budget
- verifiedPrior experience and/or a desire to work with the elderly population
- verifiedThorough knowledge of property management best practices
- verifiedAdvanced proficiency and hands-on experience with managing large and/or complex communities
- verifiedExperience establishing successful working relationships within the public sector
- verifiedDemonstrated experience with strategic short and long term planning
- verifiedKnowledge of basic accounting/finance with strong analytical ability
