The City of San Bernardino Municipal Water Department is seeking a self-starter to join our team as a Collections System Worker II. This skilled, journey-level classification is vital to maintaining the integrity of our wastewater collection system. You will exercise sound judgment and discretion in a fast-paced environment, performing a variety of duties ranging from cleaning and blockage clearing to the construction, assessment, and repair of sanitary sewer lines.
Your day-to-day work involves operating closed-circuit television (CCTV) and global-positioning system (GPS) equipment to inspect facilities, as well as operating and maintaining a wide range of light, medium, and heavy-duty motorized equipment and tools. A key part of your mission is ensuring strict compliance with general waste discharge orders issued by the California State Water Resources Control Board and the Department's Sewer System Management Plan.
This role is primarily field-based, requiring you to work in a variety of environmental conditions, including extreme weather, loud noises, and proximity to street traffic. You will frequently encounter wet, humid, and potentially hazardous conditions, including exposure to hazardous chemicals, untreated wastewater, and airborne particles. The work demands physical stamina to navigate slippery or uneven surfaces, climb ladders, and lift heavy materials.
As a Collections System Worker II, you will be an essential part of our emergency response team. This classification requires participation in mandatory callback or standby duty on a rotating schedule that includes nights, weekends, and holidays. You must be prepared to respond to emergency calls within the timeframes specified by our Sewer System Management Plan.
