This Registered Nurse (RN) position is based at the Roanoke City Jail in Roanoke, VA. The role is designed for those ready to take on a position that will enrich their career and make a real impact on the community. You will provide direct patient care in a correctional setting, collaborating with healthcare teams to develop and implement patient care plans while ensuring compliance with facility policies, state regulations, and infection control standards. The position involves educating patients on health conditions, monitoring their progress, and contributing to a safe and effective healthcare environment. You will work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, to meet the facility's healthcare needs.
In this role, you will provide direct patient care by assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care plans according to established policies and procedures. You will conduct initial medical screenings for incoming inmates and provide ongoing healthcare throughout their incarceration. Your responsibilities include performing comprehensive physical assessments, administering prescribed medications and treatments, and managing medical emergencies, including trauma and medical crises. You will serve as a clinical resource and mentor to other nursing staff, assuming leadership roles in the absence of higher-level management to oversee day-to-day operations. Additionally, you will work closely with interdisciplinary teams, including physicians and correctional officers, to provide comprehensive care and communicate effectively regarding treatment plans and health education.
