About the Role

This position is pivotal in ensuring the safety and quality of thousands of vehicles on the market. As an Automotive Technician at CarMax, you will perform work specified on maintenance and repair orders with efficiency, strictly adhering to dealership standards. Your day-to-day responsibilities include diagnosing and repairing vehicle systems—such as engines, transmissions, electrical components, steering, suspension, braking, and air conditioning—to precise specifications.

You will also inspect and test new vehicles, recording findings to ensure necessary repairs are made before they reach customers. A key part of this role involves communicating complex mechanical diagnoses and required repairs in a non-technical manner to service advisors and customers, bridging the gap between technical work and client understanding. You will be expected to continuously learn new technical information and techniques through formal training sessions to stay abreast of rapidly changing automotive technology.
