The Stephens Family Clinical Research Institute of the Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL, is building the Carle Clinical Imaging Research Program (CCIRP). Carle is a vertically integrated healthcare system with nearly 17,000 employees, a multi-specialty physician group, eight hospitals, and health plans. The organization collaborates extensively with the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (Illinois) on initiatives including the Carle Illinois College of Medicine—the world's first engineering-based medical school—and the Carle Illinois Advanced Imaging Center (CIAIC).
Carle is making a multi-million dollar investment in its research infrastructure, including CCIRP, CIAIC, clinical trials management, and investigator-initiated support services. The CIAIC's principal focus is a 7T Siemens TERRA whole-body MRI scanner, an FDA-approved system used for both research and clinical purposes and the only such system in the State of Illinois. The center also houses a Siemens 3T Prisma, a 3T Vida, and two Siemens 1.5T Sola systems available for research. Existing programs focus on MRI physics, translational and clinical neuroimaging at 7T, and musculoskeletal MRI at 3T and 7T.
