About the Role
This position is vital to maintaining the shelter in a thoroughly clean and sanitary manner while ensuring every animal receives the best possible care and attention. As a member of Union Local 856, you will serve as a frontline caregiver, managing the daily needs of the shelter's population. Your day involves providing humane care, maintaining safe environments through rigorous cleaning and disinfection, and ensuring animals are fed and hydrated at all times.
A significant and sensitive aspect of this role involves end-of-life services. You will perform euthanasia in strict accordance with Society policies and California laws, including owner-present euthanasia. This requires the ability to manage the emotional weight of these moments with compassion and professionalism, while also supporting staff during high-emotion circumstances. Additionally, you will assist in training new staff and volunteers, helping to foster a supportive and skilled team environment.
Hiring Process
Candidates must pass a background check upon hire. Successful applicants will be required to become certified in euthanasia within six months of employment. We look for individuals who can effectively communicate with the public, volunteers, and team members, presenting information clearly in both one-on-one and small group settings.

Key Responsibilities

Requirements
