As a Vision Consultant, you will serve as a trusted advisor within a critical federal hiring program. Your primary mission is to perform comprehensive, independent vision consultations by auditing physical examinations conducted by Doctors of Optometry. You will ensure that all determinations regarding candidate suitability align with program guidelines, clinical standards, and federal hiring requirements.
In this role, you will review and evaluate medical records, diagnostic findings, and vision-related documentation to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance. You will apply your expertise in forensic law enforcement and/or military screening standards to prepare clear, concise, and clinically supported written final vision determinations. Beyond individual case reviews, you will act as a mentor by providing clinical guidance, coaching, and training to clinicians to support quality, consistency, and adherence to standards.
You will maintain a working knowledge of Office of Personnel Management (OPM) medical and suitability policies, ensuring all consultations reflect current clinical best practices and regulatory requirements. Your work will directly support program integrity through participation in quality assurance activities and by providing input on process and policy improvements. You will communicate professionally with program managers, clinicians, and other internal stakeholders while safeguarding confidential medical information in strict compliance with HIPAA and all applicable federal guidelines.
