Working at the Naval Nuclear Laboratory fosters pride in belonging to an organization defined by core values of Trust, Empowerment, and Collaboration. Operated for the U.S. Department of Energy by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC, the Laboratory is a national asset solely dedicated to the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program. For nearly 70 years, we have developed advanced nuclear propulsion technology, provided technical support, and trained world-class nuclear operators to ensure the safe and reliable operation of the nation's submarine and aircraft carrier Fleets.
Our culture promotes safety and reliability while training the Sailors who operate our reactors. We rely on the dedication and innovation of nearly 8,000 engineers, scientists, technicians, and support personnel across four DOE facilities and various shipyard locations.
The Propulsion Plant Team Trainer (PPTT) Programs & Engineering (PPE) subdivision is a multi-site organization engaged in the design, fabrication, assembly, installation, testing, and delivery of the PPTT—a full-scale propulsion plant hardware simulator. This simulator supports the Next Generation Training Program (NGTP).
This role offers an exciting opportunity for engineers to support ongoing efforts in electrical and systems engineering, development, and testing of the PPTT and its supporting systems. You will work within a holistic physical training envelope, managing the interactive portion of the simulated environment and the trainer's supporting infrastructure. The position involves planning and conducting independent work efforts throughout the project lifecycle, interfacing with stakeholders to ensure objectives are met, and performing electrical design reviews with suppliers and internal stakeholders. You will also support on-site hardware inspections and testing at supplier facilities and remote NNL sites.
Successful candidates will design, procure, install, test, and maintain the PPTT Test Platform, including PLC-based distributed I/O systems, network architecture, sound and communication systems, and electrical power control systems. This is an entry-level opportunity for those willing to work at either the Bettis Site in Pennsylvania or the Kesselring Site in New York.
