The CZInt Project Manager will work with Professor Jeff Munroe (Middlebury College, Department of Earth&Climate Sciences), colleagues at Penn State and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, and a dedicated social outreach expert to coordinate the “CZInt” project. Through an array of community building initiatives, CZInt aims to cultivate connections between networks of scientists studying Earth’s Critical Zone (the near-surface environment where geology, hydrology, ecology, and humans intersect) in the US, France, Germany, Sweden, and other countries. This is considered a part-time, hourly, non-benefits eligible position. The minimum starting hourly rate for the position is $23.66 - $29.58 and will begin September 1st and run for 18 months. Responsibilities Preparation of a quarterly newsletter and distribution to CZInt affiliated scientists. Organization, advertising, and implementation of a monthly webinar series, including technical support to ensure the webinar is accessible to attendees and recorded for future viewing. Maintenance of a database of scientists participating in CZInt activities, including compilation of results from surveys distributed during the webinar and other CZInt events. Providing administrative support for the CZInt project leads, including taking minutes and preparing summaries of meetings between CZInt project leads and international collaborators. Assisting Haunted Desk, the consultancy responsible for promotion of CZInt through social media outlets. Making logistical arrangements for CZInt meetings at the Fall 2024 AGU conference in Washington, DC; the spring EGU conference in Vienna, Austria; the summer 2025 eLTER meeting in Tampere, Finland; and the 2025 AGU conference in New Orleans, and coordination of travel awards for CZInt meeting participants. Leading a polling effort of the global Critical Zone research community to compile a crowd-sourced list of research priorities, and summarizing and evaluating results for inclusion in a paper presenting outcomes from the overall CZInt effort. Assist in preparing annual and final reports of CZInt activities for the National Science Foundation. Requirements Outstanding organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple and diverse tasks simultaneously. Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to effectively work with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures. Familiarity with arranging reimbursements in Oracle, as well as basic budget management principles. Ability to follow instructions, to work independently, and to contribute to a team. Discipline and motivation necessary to effectively work remotely. Facility with the design, implementation, and evaluation of polling mechanisms suitable for collecting text-based responses from large numbers of people. Experience with video-conferencing platforms and the steps involved in successfully coordinating an online webinar for globally distributed participants. Familiarity with Google cloud-based file management software and software suitable for preparation of a graphic-rich newsletter for distribution to CZInt-affiliated scientists. Physical Demands&Working Conditions Regularly required to stand, sit; talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate diverse technologies.
