Job Summary: The Tax Experienced Manager, Core Tax Services is responsible for advising clients on the tax implications of their business objectives, evaluating and selecting alternative actions to lessen tax burden and cost of compliance, identifying different methods of complying with tax regulations while acting as the primary client contact for complex tax issues. In this role, the Tax Experienced Manager will apply knowledge to understand potential tax issues, recognize and communicate potential risks, and make top-level decisions regarding filing, preparation, and resolution of questions from federal/state agencies. Additionally, the Tax Experienced Manager will be a critical member of the office/region leadership team and actively participate in marketing, networking, and business development within an area of expertise while maintaining client relationships. Job Duties: Tax Compliance Ensures clients comply with all applicable authorities while minimizing their tax and reporting burdens, and that self and client service teams comply with all Firm policies and standards. Conducts top-level review of T/R and resolves all tax issues with clients; involves specialists where appropriate. Communicates with clients and Assurance any issues identified in tax accrual reviews. Plans for early recognition of material tax and compliance issues and consults with the client and/or partner as appropriate. Manages client relationships and expectations in accordance with the project. Provides timely advice to clients. Plans and reviews the tax process and procedures to include budgeting and staffing. Monitors engagement process and actual time incurred vs. budget with the assistance of Senior staff. Ensures timely billing and collection of A/R, including management of identified out-of-scope activity and communication to clients. Research Identifies when research is needed; frames issues to be researched and reports the analysis clearly. Identifies complex issues to be researched by engagement team and provides research methodology for efficient research process. Trains managers/staff on research skills and helps to appropriately frame tax issues for analysis. Involves firm specialists as appropriate. ASC 740-10 (FAS 109 and FIN 48) Tax Accruals Applies Firm policies and standards regarding FAS 109 and FIN 48. Helps others to learn and apply ASC 740-10 and Firm policies. Reviews tax provisions and applies in-depth knowledge of ASC 740-10 if applicable. Explains components of the income tax provision and uncertain tax positions to clients. Tax Consulting Assists with developing and implementing methods to maximize client benefits, especially by decreasing taxes. Applies tax knowledge and business/industry knowledge to recommend solutions. Monitors implementation of work plans for tax consulting projects. Manages inquiries from federal and state agencies. May provide assistance with protests at the appeals level. Tax Specialization Develops an in-depth understanding of issues regarding various areas of taxation. May organize and conduct effective external CPE training sessions in area of specialization. May train and mentor managers/seniors/associates on specialization areas. Strategy Development Introduces and develops new ideas to improve client positions or reduce taxes. Researches and implements tax strategies. May present complex strategies to clients. Other duties as required Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervises associates and senior associates on all projects. Reviews work prepared by associates and senior associates and provides feedback. Trains Associates and Seniors on current software tools. May act as a Career Advisor to associates and senior associates. Provides performance feedback to associates and senior associates. Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Education: Bachelor's degree required; major in Accounting, Finance, Economics or Statistics preferred. Master's in Accountancy or Taxation preferred. Experience: Six (6) or more years of relevant tax experience required. Prior supervisory experience required. Industry expertise in one or more tax specialties preferred. License/Certifications: CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent required. Possession of other professional degrees or certifications applicable to role preferred. Software: Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite preferred. Experience with tax research databases and tax compliance process software preferred. Other Knowledge, Skills&Abilities: Superior verbal and written communication skills. Strong analytical, research, critical thinking, and decision-making skills. Ability to work well in a team environment. Ability to develop and manage a team of tax professionals. Ability to compose written tax advice. Ability to maintain client relationships. Executive presence to act as primary client contact. Individual salaries are determined after consideration of numerous factors including qualifications, experience, skills, and geography. Salary Range: California: $136,000 - $165,000; Colorado: $120,000 - $135,000; Illinois: $120,000 - $139,000; Maryland: $130,000 - $140,000; Minnesota: $100,000 - $130,000; NYC/Long Island/Westchester: $150,000 - $175,000; Washington: $131,400 - $160,000; Washington DC: $142,000 - $152,000.
