General Summary of Position 10,000 Sign-on Bonus MedStar Health is looking for a Senior Positron Emission Tomography (PET) Technologist to join our team at MedStar Washington Hospital Center As a Senior PET Technologist, you will perform Positron Emission Tomography (PET) imaging procedures in Nuclear Medicine using positron radiopharmaceuticals. In conjunction with the Director PET and Manager, Nuclear Medicine coordinates the daily operations of the PET area. Apply today and learn how MedStar Health can be your next great career move Primary Duties: Organizes the activities of the PET area of Nuclear Medicine with the Manager, Nuclear Medicine. Coordinates work of staff to maintain patient flow and minimize time between patients thus maximizing camera utilization. Oversees junior technologists and personnel engaged in transporting and positioning PET patients, including providing input and recommending personnel actions including performance appraisals, merit increases, and/or promotions. Develops criteria for and teaches PET techniques, including basic scanning principles and knowledge of PET equipment to new technologists, students, etc. Oversees the scheduling of PET patient exams, pre-authorizations, and contacting insurance companies to resolve unpaid claims. Updates the CPT and HCPCS II codes relative to PET in the Cerner system and the Hospital's CDM to maintain maximum reimbursements. Resolves incomplete lists of MARS and ensures proper use of the MARS system. Develops and maintains cooperative working relationships with other Hospital departments and staff(s) to obtain solutions to problems and improve services to patients and physicians. Performs the duties and responsibilities of a staff PET technologist. Assists subordinate staff in the resolution of more difficult technical problems and instructs or demonstrates appropriate techniques or methods. Administers radiopharmaceuticals and selected pharmaceuticals via all routes to include oral (PO), intravenous (IV), and intramuscular (IM) injections. Reviews and makes recommendations for revision of PET policies, procedures, and/or adherence to regulations with the Director PET. Maintains code cart and emergency supplies. Orders supplies according to established procedures and ensures maintenance of proper stock levels, storage, and supply utilization. Qualifications: Associate degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology from an A.M.A. approved school. 1-2 years of progressively more responsible experience as a nuclear medicine technologist.
