Speech Therapy Aide Special Education Department Primary Purpose: To assist speech language pathologists in providing comprehensive services to eligible students. Qualifications: Education/Certification: High school graduate or GED Qualifies for appropriate state paraprofessional certification Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Effective communication, human relations and interpersonal skills PC literate including Word, Outlook, and spreadsheet knowledge Flexible and able to adjust daily routine Able to interpret instructions, complete tasks within timelines and multi-task Bilingual in English/Spanish required Experience: Experience in Special Education preferred Major Responsibilities and Duties: Interpreter (English/Spanish) for speech therapy sessions. Escort students to/from therapy sessions. Maintain confidentiality while working with student information. Assist in administering the Spanish edition of the criterion referenced assessments with the campus SLP present. Assist in copying and translating written documents. Assist in making therapy materials. Assist SLP with behavior management. Travel within district boundaries. Other Responsibilities: Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures. Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief. Implement alternative methods of instruction as needed. Perform other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities: None Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of Instructional Paraprofessional Personnel.
