Overview The Senior Automation Controls Engineer will report directly to the Automation Engineering Manager and will be primarily responsible for the design, deployment, and support of advanced automation process control solutions for biopharmaceutical manufacturing and laboratory processes. The successful candidate for this position should be an experienced engineer with a good understanding of industrial automation architecture and implementing technical solutions. This engineer will have responsibility for creation of documentation and the maintenance of that documentation in an ISO regulated plant. The successful candidate will be driven to perform work to quality, and actively work with personnel at all levels within the organization and directly interface with external customers to meet technical resolution. Responsibilities Provide training or presentations on functionality of hardware/software to field applications, service, and customers. Provide mentorship and guidance to engineers and peers. Communicate effectively with engineering staff and cross functional departments. Provide technical expertise to inform code and documentation review to meet continuous quality improvement goals. Program and troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, Industrial Computers, and SCADA systems. Program in Allen-Bradley RS 500, 5000, Siemens, DeltaV and Automation Direct PLCs. Experience with developing HMI applications such as iFix, Wonderware System Platform. TIA Portal and Automation Direct Cmore is a plus. Develop and edit engineering design and manufacturing documents, technical evaluations, and ensure products meet automation standards (21CFR Part 11, GAMP, ISA-88). Troubleshoot advanced electrical controls (i.e. loop controls, sinking vs sourcing instrumentation, current vs voltage control). Sound approach to problem solving aligned to business and quality requirements. Generate and execute necessary testing and qualification protocols as related to the overall design and performance of the automated equipment. Qualifications BS in an applicable Engineering discipline with 3 years’ experience as an Automation Engineer. Strong skills with Ladder Logic, Function Block, Boolean logic with focus on Allen Bradley PLC and I/O technologies; Siemens Platform is a plus. Strong skills in LAN networking, switches, Industrial protocols such as Ethernet/IP, Modbus, data cabling, and Industrial network topology. Experience in developing and editing engineering design documents, technical evaluations, and test plans for cGMP process equipment. Able to manage time to complete tasks to balance changing priorities to meet multiple project needs. Able to communicate effectively regarding project tasks and escalate issues as appropriate.
