Overview: The Progressive Care RN (Acute Care Step-down) at Presbyterian Hospital is responsible for the coordination of nursing care – including direct patient care, patient/family education and transitions of care. The RN supports professional nursing practice across various settings through the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family. Our Progressive Care units include Acute Medical Step-Down, Cardiac Step-Down and Neuro Step-Down. In Progressive Care, there are opportunities for RNs to gain leadership experience through Preceptor, Clinical Practice Leader, Relief Charge and Quality Improvement roles. Cardiac Step-Down: Cardiac ICU Step Down is comprised of 2 units totaling 50 beds. This unit provides patient-focused, specialized care to patients requiring telemetry monitoring for various Cardiovascular disorders, including Cardiac arrhythmias and heart failure. Patients recovering from myocardial infarction, coronary intervention, and electrophysiology procedures are also cared for on this unit. The Cardiac Progressive Units provide quality care through a collaborative, interdisciplinary approach. We strive to provide the best professional patient care during our patients’ stay, followed by personalized discharge planning to meet outpatient needs. Neuro Step-Down Units: The Neuro Step Down Unit is a dedicated team of high-performing nurses providing exceptional patient care within the 29-bed unit. This unit is highly specialized neurology Step-Down, dedicated to the special care required for patients who are recovering from neurosurgery, or neurological injuries – to include psych patients.
