Program Head of Down East Woodworking: Join us on stunning Mount Desert Island (Bar Harbor) We are a premier outdoor education day camp with 50 acres of woods bordering Acadia National Park and significant waterfront on Echo Lake. Camp Beech Cliff is seeking qualified applicants for the Program Head of Down East Woodworking position to make this program area engaging and popular This instructor plans creative and hands-on activities rooted in woodworking with hand tools. CBC utilizes the Maplewoodshop Curriculum to deliver our woodworking programming. All staff must adhere to the health and safety laws set forth by the State of Maine Dept of Human Services Youth Camps Division, and standards for accreditation with the American Camping Association. Considerations: Applicants should realize that the job of a camp counselor is challenging, demanding, and requires a great deal of patience and understanding. Personal lifestyle sacrifices may have to be made including disconnecting from daily use of digital technology during the camp day. Sensitive and dynamic leadership is necessary to provide youngsters the opportunity to grow, learn to positively relate to others, establish life-long values, and increase their appreciation of the natural world. Salary depends on level of experience and relevant certifications ($600 - $700 per week). Possible housing available. Training in program. Minimum qualifications: At least 20 years of age, and one year’s experience leading basic woodworking activities with kids. Must enjoy working with youth of all backgrounds and be passionate about working outdoors and engaging campers ages 5 – 15. Must have the ability to plan a wide range of activities and programs throughout the summer. Availability early- June through end of August. Preferred qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree and at least two years of direct experience in leading handcraft activities for kids. If no degree, equivalent work or study experience preferred.
