Neurologist/Neuromuscular Medicine Specialist Position Location: Hospital for Special Care Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40 Work Shift: First Shift Department: Outpatient Services We are dedicated to creating an environment of care and engagement that makes us one of the most desirable places to work, providing exceptional care to each patient each and every day QUALIFICATIONS Member of the active Medical Staff and Executive Council at Hospital for Special Care - required. Board certified in Neurology&Neuromuscular Medicine - required. Minimum of 3 years clinical experience in Neuromuscular Medicine - required. JOB SUMMARY To provide Neuromuscular patient care. To teach principles of Neuromuscular Medicine (NM). To provide NM leadership to programs and personnel. To develop NM service models of care and advocate for diagnostic and supportive care for NM patients. To perform electromyography. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Predominantly involves sitting. Standing, walking, reaching and bending are occasional. Push/pulling up to 35 pounds. COGNITIVE DEMANDS Significantly related to patient care/evaluation problem solving and planning. Communication is key for running interdisciplinary team. Computation, particularly with regard to impairment evaluations and rating. WORK DEMANDS Predominantly indoor climate controlled work climate. Occasional exposure to dust/odors and blood/wounds. Varied work demands balancing patient care requirements, meetings, etc. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Participate in Neuromuscular Medicine Clinical and Research Programs. Care for patients with Neuromuscular Disorders. Perform EMGs. Interact with medical staff/referring physicians to ensure continuity of care. Participate in rotating inpatient and chronic care coverage. Act as Medical Director of Outpatient Services providing clinical direction to staff and input on policies and procedures. Plan/implement all interventions/interactions with an awareness of cultural, ethnic, religious, language, and age related/developmental needs of each patient. Ensure the adequacy of the individual treatment prescriptions for patients. Provide medical treatment to hospital employees eligible for employee health services. Consult with Program managers and Business Unit Director in development of NM services programs. Interact with Medical Staff physicians as a member of the Medical Executive Committee attending 75% of meetings. Promote/advocate for neuromuscular patients and for individuals with activity limitations. Establish policies and procedures for NM physicians providing treatments. Recommend criteria for clinical privileges in the department or service. Continuously assess the quality and appropriateness of patient care provided within NM services. Responsible for the teaching education and research programs in the NM program. Establish the type and scope of services required to meet the needs of the patients and the hospital. Develop ongoing relationships with stakeholders, such as families, patients, other physicians, payers, and community members. Participate in comprehensive outpatient program development and modification. Participate in education of medical residents, students, and neurology residents in NM service. Provide direction and in-service to Neurology and Neuromuscular departments on topics in neuromuscular medicine. Continue own education in areas pertinent to hospital mission as documented in credentials file. About Us At HFSC, we are a family.
