Job Description Montgomery College, Takoma Silver Spring Campus, is seeking a full-time Computer Science and Cybersecurity faculty member to fill a position starting January 2025 . Montgomery College is a regional leader in the delivery of technology education, offering both a Computer Science and Technologies and a Cybersecurity associates degree, as well as multiple certificates and related non-credit courses. We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher who exhibits a high degree of professionalism, a strong commitment to our students, and the ability to motivate and educate in an engaging manner. The successful candidate will be committed to teaching in a multicultural, student-focused, two-year institution serving students with diverse learning abilities. This position is part of a collective bargaining unit. Duties include but are not limited to: Teach a range of introductory and advanced courses in computer science and cybersecurity, including but not limited to courses such as Introduction to Programming, Introduction to Scripting, Network Security, UNIX/LINUX System Administration, and Defending the Network. Maintain a workload consisting of a standard minimum of thirty (30) equivalent semester hours (ESH) per academic year, which may include daytime, evening, weekend, and/or accelerated classes. Opportunities may exist to teach summer session classes or dual enrollment classes for high school students. Deliver assigned courses in accordance with college catalog descriptions, discipline course syllabus standards, and other discipline or college stipulations. Incorporate the use of platforms such as Blackboard and other relevant technologies or web-based content into the development and delivery of instruction. Advise, mentor, tutor, and advocate for students, supporting student scholarship, research, and/or internship opportunities. Maintain an active program of professional development and seek ongoing professional growth relevant to effective pedagogy and fostering equity and inclusion. Serve on departmental, campus, and college committees, participate in meetings, hold office hours, advise students, develop new curricula, and supervise undergraduate research projects. Required Qualifications: Master's Degree or higher in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or a closely related field (must be completed by December 2024). Teaching experience in higher education or in a professional training program or industry. Experience designing and/or setting up hands-on labs. Knowledge of Linux, Windows (client and server) environments, firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention systems, penetration testing, vulnerability assessment, wireless security, incident response, and/or digital forensics. Proficiency with at least one programming language (such as Python, C++, or Java). Knowledge of systems analysis and design and of theory of algorithms. Proficiency with a Learning Management System (LMS) and other web-based instructional technology. Demonstrated experience teaching using a variety of delivery methods and technology applications across the curriculum. Access to a personal computer with virus protection that can connect to the internet outside of the work location. Authorization to work in the United States without requiring employer visa sponsorship. Preferred Qualifications: Hold a CompTIA Security and other professional certifications (i.e., CISSP, CEH, CompTIA Cloud or equivalent). At least two semesters of recent full-time teaching experience or equivalent. Experience teaching about Linux, Windows environments, firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention systems, penetration testing, and digital forensics. Experience teaching programming languages, systems analysis and design, and/or theory of algorithms. Two or more years of industry experience in cybersecurity or a related technology field. Commitment to inclusive and equitable teaching practices. Experience teaching a wide range of courses offered by the department. Ability to integrate technology into course delivery to enhance student learning.
